I love this cookbook! I'm a home baker, not a professional. I just enjoy baking so I have a lot of cookbooks that I try new recipes every day. I bought this book, heard if from sallysbakingaddiction blog and since I love Sally and her recipes, I thought this book would be good. And it is! I tried couple of recipes and they all turned out to be delicious. I baked Mango- Rose Cheesecake, Butterscotch Pie and Lavender Palmiers from this book and they were all yummy. Every step is explained with details, and there are great pictures of every recipe. Most of the cookbooks don't have photos for each recipe and that kind of bugs me. I'd like to see what it's going to be in the end because I'm not a pro. I would recommend this book for anyone, for home bakers like me as well as professionals because the recipes are really creative and delicious. anyone could learn something from this book

This book offers a wide range of awesome recipes for desserts, drinks, and savory brunch foods. Each recipe has a fun and quirky description of each food from Joy's perspective. This book also offers basic advice for how to brown butter and how to maintain a skillet, which are important for novice bakers like myself. There are also great pictures of each recipe, which are honestly the most important deciding factors I use when I'm trying to decide what to bake.

I bought this book as a Christmas gift for my daughter-in-law. She's a wonderful cook and baker and loves learning all she can about the baking craft. I browsed through the book; my mouth watered at the beautiful desserts, and I'm looking forward to sampling them just as soon as my daughter-in-law whips up some of these recipes.What I can say is that my daughter-in-law requested this book. She's a very educated young woman and always does her due diligence before buying something, and she would never ask for something she didn't already know was well worth the money. So I would say, you can't go wrong here. These confections are beautiful and, I'm sure, taste wonderfully.

My copy of Joy's first cookbook Joy the Baker is dog eared from use so I knew I'd have to have a copy of her newest. I made the Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Layer cake from the cover as requested by my daughter for her birthday and it was a huge hit. It looks a bit intimidating at first glance, but Joy guides you though with amazing results. The Basic Three Layer Chocolate Cake and the Salted Peanut Butter Buttercream Frosting are the prefect vehicles for the Pretzel Cake. I also made the Graham Cracker Crust to encase the Peanut Butter Pie and my husband was in love with both. The overnight yeasted pancakes and ultimate pancake syrup are to die for. And the Chocolate Pound Cake with Chips and Chocolate Glaze, OH MY! I've just began my delicious journey with this amazing book amd I know if I'm in the mood for a little something sweet this will fulfil that desire. Of course there are other delicious sounding recipes amongst the sweetness and the Roasted Potato Breakfast Nachos are on my to try list soon. Tomorrow morning is the Cinnamon Pull Apart Bread.

I bought this book after my appendectomy with a get well gift card my brother sent me. The pictures are gorgeous, and the blurbs before each recipe are hilarious and sound just like her blog. Since every recipe looks delicious, I've decided I'm going to make them all, whether or not there is an occasion. But today I made the chocolate cake recipe with the chocolate frosting for my son's fifth birthday party and it was INCREDIBLE. Everyone loved it and ate seconds. I left out the espresso powder from both recipes for what I hope are obvious reasons (5 year olds!) but will try it with the next time I make it. I also have made the chocolate malt oatmeal cookies with salted peanuts and the vanilla bean confetti cookies (3 times!) - both delicious! If you like to bake delicious things that are just a little bit out of the box, buy this book!

We love this book! It's full of amazing recipes, beautiful photos and made with great paper.As a beginner baker I found it easy to follow along - we made a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving with it and it was incredible!We also made some apple pie and a few other recipes out of the book. It's full of recipes for brunch, pies, cakes, cookies, you name it. Joy's style is so great too with the way she writes and engages her readers - it's funny and easy to follow for any level of baker.

Love the variety of recipes. Not a healthy dessert book by any means but it does not use any funky or weird ingredients. Just good ole desserts

The price of the book is worth it for the ice cream recipes alone. Unique flavor pairings and recipes for those times when you want something different.

Bushido,-loyalty, courage, and compassion is at the very heart of this moving novel by Alan Gratz. Gratz focuses on Toyo and his classmates in an exclusive high school as they struggle to find themselves in the period following the end of the samurai. Baseball is what brings them all together, as the Japanese boys grow together as one.

I loved this book! The setting, Japan around 1890, was fascinating. The author made the city and the boys' boarding school come alive with selected details. I loved the character of Toyo, a boy who is coming of age at a time when the world is changing drastically. Toyo is under pressure from his father to reject the new ways (baseball, for one, introduced by the Americans) and respect and live up to the old ways (of the samurai), even though the old ways are dead or dying away. In addition to the stress of which path to choose, which kind of person to be, Toyo has to contend with his classmates in the boarding school -- and each and every one of us who has gone through school knows that this is not only not easy, it is often the most important conflict a young person faces before he or she leaves school and enters the larger world. Definitely worth reading!

The story is great, I really like it. This copy of the book was browned with age and was definitely old. It was listed as new.

Very interesting how quickly the change in Japan from the Samurai culture to the modern culture. Little bit violent at the start but explanation at the end of what traditions were all about.

I really enjoyed this book. The only thing I would change is to move the historical information from the end of the book to the front of the book. I had no idea this novel was historical fiction until after I had finished reading it.I purchased extra copies to give to my baseball/softball playing grandchildren.

What an amazing debut! Toyo's story grabbed me from the first page with his uncle's preparation for ritual suicide. I couldn't wait to get to the end of the book to see if Toyo could successfully apply bushido principles to baseball, to see if he and his father could bridge just a little of the gap between them, if he could ever forgive his uncle for leaving him.But now I want more!Bravo, Alan, bravo!

14 year-old baseball player actually read it. I know something about the Meiji period and this author is for the most part quite accurate
