The book is well-written, usable either as a text or for personal interest and self-study. Good information and new ideas are here in good quantities. For example, nowhere else have I seen something explicitly on the filtering effects of balconies. On the downside, the book is ultimately thin in pages which is disappointing in that it could have been a great reference but instead remains more of an introduction.

I having been using this text in my fundamentals of sound studies class, and love it. The layout of the text, and the different ways in which it helps people are acquainted with sound as well as those who are new to it, is very good.

This book comes very short of delivering what would be expected from a ambitious and very interesting table of contents, it dwelves surprisingly long on matters like ubiquity and gives you disappointing two liners on matters like vibrato or flanger.

I don't imagine this work of painstaking and smart scholarship will ever burn up the nonfiction lists, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get your hands on this. Augoyard and Torgue present a wonderful summary of the findings of The Centre for Research on Sonic Space and the Urban Environment (CRESSON). Some sonic phenomena get brief listings, like "asyndeton," a term usually found in verbal rhetoric (in sound, "asyndeton" is "The deletion from the perception or memory of one or many sound elements in an audible whole" [26]).It's all right that intriguing terms like this receive brief mention, because the picture starts to come together when they detail the phenomenology of such connected terms as "phonomnesis" or the less-exotic (but no less fascinating) phenomenon of repetition. When they do the longer write-ups, they discuss the phenomenon under several rubrics: Physical and Applied Acoustics, Architecture and Urbanism, Psychology and Physiology of Perception, Musical Aesthetics, Sociology and Everyday Culture, and Textual and Media Expressions. In other words, there is something for every sound enthusiast here. By the end of this book they have trained you to be a researcher in sound phenomenology while only introducing the tip of the iceberg in every case.My favorite term they present here is "sharawadji," an "exotic term, introduced in Europe in the seventeenth century by travelers returning from China, designat[ing] 'the beauty that occurs with no discernible order or arrangement.'" Augoyard and Torgue go on to outline how sharawadji may occur in all the aforementioned rubrics.This book is thoroughly French in all the right ways, detailing the romance with sound that characterizes other "French" (or, if you will, Continental) greats like Beckett, Rimbaud, Varese, Cixous, Berio, et al.If you are a sound romantic like myself or souls like these, this book will likely stay at your side for a good long while.

You can say you decided to buy this book for two reasons, one, you wanted to learn about melt and pour soap making and, second, you have a thing about proper English, so you wanted to see for yourself how bad the grammar and typos were. After reading, you didn't find any major errors (let's hope) and that the book was truly very well written and that the author's conversational writing style was impressive. The book has a wealth of solid information that is helpful for any and all soap makers wanting to learn about the melt and pour soap making process. Plus, the author of DIY Natural Melt and Pour Soap Crafting, Molly Barrett, tells small stories about her experiences. She’s friendly and encouraging (I want to be her friend!) and makes it seem possible for you to take up one of the three processes and, quite frankly, from her description, I decided I’d take up the easiest—it’s the one she uses and it works just as well as the other two and they are more cumbersome. The author also supplies us with BEAUTIFUL photos to both show the equipment—I can imagine searching for equipment knowing just the name of it and having to do my own research but this makes it easy to spot what you need when shopping. She shows you some of the gorgeous soaps she’s made through pictures too. One is a piece of cake that makes me want to jump into the page and take a bite; another is of white roses that are utterly gorgeous. She says experiment, go around your house and grab things that could be molds. She next talks about the business aspect and the specifics of how to register a business. But, by the way she lays it out, you’d just take it step by step without getting overwhelmed and she provides the actual websites to go to and understand and find how to acquire what you need to be a real business. The book is clearly organized so that you know where you are going. She even talks about color, the color wheel, and what scents, essential oils, complement each other, but, again, she encourages you to experiment. If you don’t, she says, you won’t be able to find what excites you. There is a piece in the book where she explains why it is important To Her to make these natural soaps—because the additives in store-bought soaps cause physical harm to our bodies, but she encourages you to find your reasoning, something, a purpose to carry out this process, even if it’s just to play, have fun. I loved this book. I have always wondered and thought about doing this and if I’d have the time, and while it might take more time than I thought, or not, well, I knew there was tons of info. on the internet, yet here it is explained simply; there’s no one telling you reasoning in a confusing fashion to make you want to give up. Finally, the parts she explains look so fun so that getting to the color, scents and molds for your soap are sort of the icing on the cake.

Sorry, but I was very disappointed with this book. Wish I had gone with a different one. Lots of mistakes, as in not proof read. Also, I may not have soap making experience, but I do have quite a bit of knowledge with EO's and I'm very surprised the author would recommend buying them from the discount or drug store! Also, every other blog I've been reading specifically says NOT to use food coloring and this author does. I was also hoping for more useful recipes, not just ones that smell like a cookie. If you're looking for good, holistic soap making information and recipes, I would look for a better option

This book is perfect for the beginner. Written in a conversational form in easily understood language. Ignore the reviews complaining about spelling, grammer etc., those people just wanted to gripe. Downloaded book, read it, bought the supplies needed & within 3 days molded my first soap. So happy with my purchase. For anyone who doesn’t know how to use a double boiler it’s easy, Google it. That’s what I used & it worked like a charm.

The information in this book is wonderful, but I'm giving it 3 stars because it was not proof-read before publication. Entirely too many mistakes. That alone made some parts hard to understand until you re-read the previous sentences.

I love that the book was easy to read and simple to understand the concepts. However there were quite a few grammatical errors that should have been corrected during editing. I did learn some helpful hints.

I have been researching soap making for avout 6 months, trying various things out.I was hoping to learn something about soap making in this book, but the author doesn't even make her own lye water ....There isn't much I am getting out of this book.I guess it would be a nice little guft ti get sineibe ti start najubg tgeur iwb siao,

This book took me from being afraid of making soap to looking forward to it. A previous book I purchased covered only one method and it involved using lye. Molly teaches the melt and pour method which is much safer and easier. Molly's love for the craft is very evident throughout the book. I can't wait to get started!Thank you, Molly!

The author is good at thoughtful phrasing and thought-provoking "snippets" of thought but is not a story teller. The pacing and character development were "off"; it was as if he was trying to "re-tell" a personal story and hurry things along too quickly. The characters flip flopped from being incredibly flawed in a believe-able way and relatable to being incredibly un-likable and lacking any dimension. substance, or backstory. And, while the divine feminine is beautiful and erotic inherently, the author's discriptions of physical intimacy were overthought and descriptive to the point of being unrealistic and seemingly scripted to make a point versus feeling authentic to the narrative. The only reason I gave it 3 starts vs. 2 was because, again the "snippets" of wisdom and observation sprinkled throughout were thought provoking. A list of quotes would've sufficed better than a forced narrative...

I purchased this book in response to a Facebook Ad that included a very nice quote from the book. I thought, Hey it's a little pricier than I like at $11 for an e-book, but that quote looked really good...The story may be good, and there may be great insights in it, however the beginning was told almost entirely in exposition. I couldn't force myself to read past the first 10% of it, so I don't know if the storytelling got any better.

I don't mean to exclude you if you don't describe yourself that way, so let me broaden it to anyone who longs for a great love grounded in the everyday yet soaring beyond the mundane and diving into the liquid depths of love's gifts.Do not think that a love like this comes without pain, and oftentimes, it seems, without long periods of separation, as both the person who leaves and the person who is left do the necessary work to heal their fears and emotional wounds/shadow before they can truly ground such a powerful love in everyday life. Another reviewer described it as the different male and female wild inner worlds and consciousness. It is that, yet it also has Lowen and Sarah in the less stereotypic roles when it comes to who is more avoidant and who is more grasping. It would be fantastic to have a telling of the tale from the Sarah's side, as we mostly peak in on her experience through male eyes of the writer and the main character.Imagine...if the world took to this book the way this country has taken to 50 Shades of Grey...what each of our experiences of the world could be! They are twinned opposites. 50 Shades of Grey exploiting the old power over paradigm, the armored warrior and the vulnerable maiden going into battle that causes pain and anguish, punctuated by a sexuality that is not heart centered and certainly not an expression of our connection to the Divine.We, who are un-armoring each in our own ways, will be warmed and soothed at the hearth-fires of this extraordinary book.

It is a juvenile read at best. The puns get annoying after the first few chapters and the book ends very predictably. I fell for the purchase after reading positive reviews on Facebook but this doesn't measure up at all.

Maybe it's because I listened to it, and didn't read it myself. I found the main character to be a bit pathetic, and he kind of went on and on and on. I would not recommend this book.

I was hoping this would be more of a realistic story. But it's a bit too cheesy for me, and hard to swallow.

The raw truth in this writing is palpable. Love in its beauty, glory, brutality and all that teaches. It is a brilliant read that will make you think more than twice about the love bonds in your life.

This writing is hard to endure. A potentially good message gets lost in the annoying word choice from the author.
