I read this tour de force shortly after finishing Donna Leon's newest. No comparison! Leon's should have been a short story where as George has given us a story with innumerable twists and turns to keep the reader spurred on to find the culprit. It covered many social ills-alcoholism, drugs, illicit sex and sick relationships. With Sgt. Havers admirably holding her own while being put under the microscope by her superiors in hope of transferring her out of their patch and the dashing Lynley doing what he does best, sleuthing while dealing with problematical personal situations. George has expanded her characters with aplomb. Although I was anxious to find the solution to the novel, it was one I rather hated to see end.

I've been following Inspector Thomas Lynley and Sargent Barbara Havers since the beginning of Elizabeth George's "Inspector Lynley" series, and the novels just get better and better. "The Punishment She Deserves" is George's latest psychological thriller, this time set primarily in Shropshire England and the surrounding areas. I highly recommend looking up photos these towns (particularly Ludlow) on the Internet to enhance your reading experience. The novel may actually spark some tourism there!Much of the focus is on Lynley and Havers' boss, DCS Isabelle Ardery, as her alcoholism progresses. Anyone who has dealt with someone who is an addict/alcoholic will recognize the frustration and sense of helplessness that comes with trying to "talk sense" to a person so deeply in denial. George is either writing from experience or she's researched thoroughly, because these passages are difficult and very realistic. She also gives the reader a sense of what's going on in Ardery's mind as she is forced to face her demons and all she has lost to alcohol. This helps us sympathize with her some, but her abominably unfair treatment of our dears, Lynley and Havers, keeps her squarely in the villain category.As always, the best bits are the "across class" interactions/conversations between Lynley and side-kick Havers! In this novel, the St. James' are not really present yet again. I've noticed that with the past several novels, George has concentrated mostly on Lynley and Havers, and left out (or killed off) the original "group" of characters. I'm guessing because of the TV series (which I do not watch).My one criticism of "The Punishment She Deserves", is that most of the women characters (save Barbara Havers and Dee Harriman, of course) are pretty horrible; either self-destructive, or cold, or hard, or bitter, or controlling, or humorless, scolds! Isabelle (of course) but also Clover Freeman, Yasmina Lomax, Ding Donaldson, Rabiah Lomax, and Dr. Nancy Scannell. It's as if George must make "tough" women also unlikable, and I don't think that's necessary.Still, I'll be first in line to read George's next offering! I'm hooked!

I give it four stars because overall the book was wonderful, as always.However, the synopsis promised appearances from characters we haven't seen for a while, like Simon and Deborah. Cramming a mention of them in the final pages was dissatisfying and insulting. My other issue was the bizarre and unfinished way the book ended. Tommy's high-handed behavior and Barbara's sheep-like acceptance of it turned them into characters I didn't recognize and the abrupt ending made it seem as if the author painted herself into a corner and turned off the light in the room hoping we wouldn't notice.

THE PUNISHMENT SHE DESERVES: A LYNLEY NOVEL by Elizabeth George, opens in the town of Ludlow (in Shropshire).A popular and respected deacon, Ian Druitt, had been arrested under less than ‘official’ circumstances and ‘supposedly’ committed suicide under very awkward and suspicious circumstances while in police custody.The affair reeked of unanswered questions, damaged reputations and a suspicion of a police cover-up.Barbara Havers is to accompany Detective Chief Superintendent Isabelle Ardery to Ludlow to look into the matter and report back to the ‘pressured’ Assistant Commissioner, Sir David Hillier.This is to be an official investigation and also a ‘trial by fire’ for Havers. Isabelle baits and humiliates Havers at every turn, but Barbara is on very good behavior (which is about time!!).The plot is tense, detailed and full of intertwining subplots which do come together at the end.The characters are also very detailed - interesting, flawed, alternately insightful, smart and self-destructive.Barbara Havers redeems herself admirably with brilliant detecting and deduction in a bit more subdued manner (which I like). Inspector Lynley seems a bit more sharp, focused and deliberate than in previous titles.Dorothea Harriman shines and I would like to see more of DS Winston Nkata.****

I am a super Lynley-Havers fan. As such, this addition to the series is a must-read. Elizabeth George gets to the core motivations of the characters ' behaviors, carefully and slowly. Therefore, the reader must also not rush through the book. If you are not prepared to spend hours slowly enjoying this masterpiece of connected buried behaviors, this is not for you. For those who relish this sort of psychological inter-connected slowly revealing puzzle, this is a treat! Insights will occur to you long after you finish the novel and as thoughts settle in your mind. The reason I have this wonderful book 4 stars instead of 5 has to do with what I see as an unrealistic ending. In my experience, toxic abusers rarely take responsibility for their behaviors and certainly never apologize. I wonder if anyone else felt this way? But, aside for that, this is a wonderful edition to the series.

I learned a lot about Mozart. For instance I didn't know that he had a prodigy sister. Girls like that weren't recognized like that back in those days. I that is so not fair!! Girls can sometimes do much better than boys!!!No wonder she didn't at first care whether or not she did anything for her musical career.Wow!! I wish I could sit at the piano and listen by ear like she did and just play anything my little heart desires.I didn't know that Wolfgang had a sister Nannerl which I had a hard time pronouncing. 13 is such a hard age. I could understand some of her frustration but for sibling riverly I cannot.About that I think it would be neat to a sibling. NOT I'm too spoiled to want one.This parent favoritism I didn't like. It's not fair for one child and not the other. Too much of this goes on in families in real life. It is happening in my husband's. Be say he's not jealous but deep down I know he really is.I also didn't like that there was nothing aside the names which could teach you how to pronounce them.But overall it was a delightful book.I could hear the siblings squabbling over whatever it might be. And I could also see them at the 🎹 playing whatever piece they are working on and their papa leaning against it with a smile on his faceI took piano for 9 years and now I can't play worth a lickI received a copy of this book from Netgalley. I usually don't write reviews but I felt I needed to on this. Those of you who are living with Lupus or know somebody who is, you know the hell they go thru. (And that's putting it mildly.) My extremely athletic, martial art champion, over all healthy, 14 year old daughter was just diagnosed with (SLE) Lupus. Released from Children's Hospital after a 2 month stay in ICU just this past February 2017, we came home doing everything we possibly could to educate ourselves. Unfortunately, as you all know, Lupus is temperamental & has a mind of its own. Everyday is different. On top of that, my daughter is going thru a wide variety of emotions that have been tough for her to understand or really discuss. I came across this online during one of many sleepless nights reading about anything regarding Lupus. I ordered it with no expectations. Wasn't even sure if she would pick it up. I'm so glad I did!!! Some things I liked about the book:- some quite practical points that should be taken on board and would be really helpful - and look no ministry is perfect – all could be done better - that’s life!- Some good honest thoughts about general faults of youth ministry etc- I like how he (Chris) talks about getting along side people etc – the people focus/loveSome real concerns about this book- I think he (Chris) spends too much time running down what has been done in the past in youth ministry by others etc or what he has done in the past as a basis for promoting his “new way” – helps to sell the book- He generalises too much about other ministries to promote his reculturing/new way presentation – that is the Brian Mclaren style- He outs those who criticise him to justify his case- He is a little too ”ME” centric – actually that might be my biggest criticism – far too many ‘I’,’ME’, ‘MY’ words- Full of the emergent/post modern buzzwords like "spiritual transformation" - but what does he really mean scripturally?- Not enough scripture at all – this is how ministries ultimately move away from God over years Example: he never uses the word “Cross” (of Christ) once in the book – But he talks of people purging themselves of sin – well how do you purge yourself of sin – the bible tells us how but Chris doesn’t!So it gets a very low mark for me because the inadequacies of the book strongly outway the good

Chris is addressing an epidemic problematic state YM is facing. YM ministry does not need a nice and neat cool program to attract students. YM needs people to not only unconditionally love and care for them, but walk with them in the midst of their spiritual journey. Adults need to be co-labors with students as they discover who God is and who God is in their life. Chris is, hence the title, formulating a new way to orchestrate YM. Chris is giving a bird's eye perspective of the realities and practicalities of what needs to happen in YM. Chris is giving an articulation and language to the YM problem. Chris argues for a re-culturing of YM.Re-culturing means a new: understanding of culture, students, and YM, methodology, teaching, leadership, discipleship, evangelism, missions, and weekly programs. Essentially a re-culturing means a YM make over. Changes happen over time. It is a gradual process. In the Church world, change is a very-very slow process. Also, people in Church do not like change or to be taught a new way. Chris is pioneering into a new way of doing youth ministry. Now, Youth workers, pastors, parents, students, and church people need to catch up with him.Chris gives great practical principles that one can import into YM, but he does not a give a solid theological foundation to argue for and why there needs to be a re-culturation. I would have loved to see a theological chapter with applicable comments speaking to the new way of reculturing YM.The traditionalists, who do not like to deviate from their way, may give hard resistance to Chris's new way. It appeared Chris was already expecting the resistance. Throughout the book, Chris kept re-clarifying himself so the "traditionalist" would not miss interpret him. Chris would make a wonderful claim, and in the next paragraph would start with: I am not suggesting that..... I noticed Chris was trying too hard to please both his advocates and aggressors. Chris would make a profound statement and follow the statement with: I did not mean this or I am not suggesting this. If people do not like it, let them, and not you, deal with it.I love the missional chapter of this book. YM needs to move from mission trips to living missionally. We need to be going global, but also we need to be going local. We need to be God's people bringing our local communities reconciliation and restoration. We need stop talking about the Gospel, and start walking out the gospel. Living missionally makes being a follower of Christ very practical and experiential. A student does not need to go to Africa in order to be a part of missionary work. In fact, a student can go down the street to do mission work, by simply being the Gospel to all people. Also, Chris gives wonderful charts, real life examples, resources, and tangible tool for youth workers who want to incorporate the ideas of living missionally.There needed to be a chapter devoted to reculturing parents. If a youth minister begins to import the ideologies reculturation in their youth ministry, parents are going to freak out if they are not prepared adequately. Parents need to be recultured in addition to YM. Parents are going to start to wonder why youth group does not have all of the fun power point games with prizes anymore? Seemingly, if one is going to begin to reculture their youth ministry, the church at large and parents also need to be on board with the recutlturation process. There is nothing worst then having a parent who is feeling out of the loop to what is happening in the YM. While considering how the YM needs to be re-cultured, one needs to consider how the parent needs to be re-cultured so they can understand, support, and encourage the YM in the new way. With a new way of YM, means a new way to communicating, connecting, and relating to parents. I give Chris's book two thumbs up! Chris not only coined language to the new way of YM, but illustrated how to orchestrate a new way of YM. I believe Chris has dropped a bomb on the YM world and now the YM world needs ask themselves: am I going to react or embrace this new way of doing YM. Chris's method is not a model, but practical principles that aim at the core needs of today's students. It is up to the youth minister to contextually, theologically, and practically develop a plan suited to his or her youth ministry that can begin to execute the new way.

Portable, 1 sided coloring book. I shared a few pictures so you can see the size and bleed to the opposite side of paper. Pictures need to be justified right as the drawing goes too close to the binding on about half of the pages. Cute gift for $5.

Lovely prints and very soothing to color. I also appreciate the quotes and sayings. I've concluded that it's not about how quickly or neatly you can color a design. It's about your journey in completing it and how much you've enjoyed whatever therapeutic benefits you've had while coloring.

I've really enjoyed the adult coloring books lately and am always on the lookout for books with a different theme or look. I particularly love the ones that are a little bit smaller.Great things about the coloring book:1. perfect size2. fairly stiff paper, so it's fairly easy to color on your lapNot crazy about:the style (too many circles). I realize this is a personal style preference so I just gave it to one of my daughters who enjoys it quite a lot.I bought this and another on-the-go coloring book by the same artist, but they just weren't for me.

I got a few of these books for my wife, and she absolutely loves them! They are a great size, and the pages contain gobs of detail to color in.

I am enjoying the adult coloring book "craze" that is happening now, and I especially enjoy Valentina Harper's work. Though I have not colored in this particular book yet, I know it will be a pleasure. The On-The-Go part is great. My only criticism of this coloring book is the pages are not perforated for tearing out. Most of her books are. Otherwise, keep up the good work!

Incredible, fun pictures in a size that is actually doable. Sometimes the bigger pictures of other books is too daunting once you get started. These are actually perfectly sized. The sentiments insides are great, too. Probably best with colored pencils (not markers) as the pages are quite thin.

The testing procedure for TOEFL iBT writing part is to read a short passage, to listen to a short lecture, and then to integrate the two materials by writing for the integrated task. To my disappointment, their books don't contain any audio files/CD in their books, only showing the listening script on them--it's no difference between listening and reading!!! For the second language learners, listening is also an important part for the preparation of TOEFL iBT writing part. I have several other editions of TOEFL iBT writing books, all containing audio files/CDs within. I hope they can improve the quality and completeness of their books.

This is good for preparing TOEFL writing test. I studied this book after studying level 1, and I figured out what TOEFL asks me to do. I should have found this book earlier....

With the first writing book by Kallis, I was able to set a solid foundation for my writing. With the second book, I was not only able to improve my writing, but also be creative. This book was such a great tool that significantly enhanced my writing skills!
